The Round presents Monument by Emily Sheehan
A Red Stitch production developed through the INK program
Edith Aldridge is the youngest woman to be elected leader of her country. In the lush presidential suite of a heritage listed hotel, she has just 90 minutes to get ready for the biggest day of her life.
Enter Rosie, a twenty-two year old makeup artist from the David Jones counter, sent to help Edith get camera ready. In Rosie’s capable hands, this morning will be a breeze. So long as they both stick to the brief.
Over the course of their 90 minutes together, Rosie expertly does Edith’s makeup, hair and styling, but the safe space of the makeup chair takes effect and secrets bubble up. An unlikely friendship develops between these two women of different generations and class backgrounds, ultimately shifting the trajectory of both Edith’s and Rosie’s lives.
