About

Proudly presented by The Round for Midsumma Festival.

TINA – A Tropical Love Story is a powerful celebration of First Nations storytelling, queer pride and the enduring legacy of a global music icon.

In 1993, at the sweltering Darwin Amphitheatre, a young First Nations boy was swept away by Tina Turner’s electrifying performance. That unforgettable night would spark a journey of self-discovery.

More than a tribute, this bold, genre-blurring cabaret weaves lived experience with music, storytelling and dazzling drag. At its heart is Tina Turner — a woman whose strength, survival and unapologetic presence shaped generations. With hits like Proud Mary, What’s Love Got to Do with It, The Best and River Deep – Mountain High, Tina’s music becomes a soundtrack for resilience, identity and liberation.

Guided by the narrative of First Nations drag performer Miss Ellaneous, the stage comes alive with an extraordinary lineup of LGBTQIA+ and First Nations artists, each bringing their own personal stories and intimate connection to Tina’s music.

Featuring:

  • Cleopatra Pryce
  • Dana Dizon
  • Kee’Ahn
  • The Huxleys
  • Thomas Bevan

Together, they create a vibrant, heartfelt celebration of culture, queerness and community, honouring Tina Turner not just as a superstar, but as a symbol of empowerment.

"Breaking the well-worn mould of the tribute show, this dazzling production excels in its capacity to generate joy."
